FAS History:
Est: 1971
Est: 1971

FAS was foundered by Frank Aitkin Smith (FAS) in the late 1960’s.
Frank was working as professional paint chemist for the well-known house paint brands in Auckland, New Zealand. Frank started manufacturing art paints, ink and dyes in his home garage in his spare time and successfully selling them in art stores throughout New Zealand.
FAS (Fine Art Supplies Ltd) was officially foundered and registered as a company by Frank Aitkin Smith (FAS) in Jan 1971.
The New Zealand Government Educational Department (NZED) approached FAS in 1972 as they were searching for high quality paints to meet the standards NZED required for the New Zealand School Market.
NZED found no paint products available at that time that met the safety or colour standards they were looking for. So FAS was asked to formulate educational art and craft paints that would meet the new high-quality standards set by NZED in the early 1970's.
Thus; FAS | Fine Art Supplies was born and overnight became and still is today the leading brand of educational paints in New Zealand schools.
Our focus is “Quality First”.
