Scraper Art:
Children love this art lesson. It’s like magical art; children of all ages have a go at it. But above all, it is simple, colourful, and enjoyable.
You will need:
Heavy White Paper
Super Tempera Paint - Black.
A broad or foam brush
Wax Crayons.
Toothpicks, paper clips or something similar that you can scratch paint with.
Apron and a cover sheet, newspapers or paper towels.
Let’s get started:
Using the wax crayons, colour the entire sheet of paper with bright colours. Often, brighter and thicker colour layering is better. Keep in mind that the wax in the crayons also acts as a barrier to help prevent the paper from becoming too soggy and unusable. Before you continue, it is a good idea to make sure that all the artworks are named on the back.
Wax crayons colour the entire sheet of paper with bright colours. Apply a layer of black tempera paint using a broad brush. Making sure you cover the complete surface and you no longer see any of the wax crayon. Allow to dry.
Once the paint is completely dry, you can begin to scratch off your desired image with a toothpick. This allows the brighter wax crayon to be revealed against the darker black surface.
Look, wow just like magic! This is the bit the children love the most.
TIPS:
Often, it is a good idea to do this in two parts over two days. This will ensure the paint is completely dry and ready for scraping.
You can use anything for scraping, from keys to sticks.
It is important to make sure the paint is dry.
Once completed, you can use glitter for that extra special effect.
