Easy Paper Dyeing for Colourful Classroom Fun:
Today we’re creating bright, colourful paper using an easy paper dyeing activity. This is one of those lessons kids get excited about because the colours spread and mix in fun, unexpected ways.
It’s quick to set up, easy to clean up, and works beautifully for pre-school and primary ages, both at school and at home.
What you’ll need
Absorbent paper (blotting paper, rice paper, coffee filter paper, or paper towels)
FAS Painting Dye or FAS Fun Dye
Small bowls or plastic containers
Eye droppers or pipettes
Aprons
Rubber gloves (optional)
Newspaper or paper towels to protect tables

Let’s get started
Put on aprons and cover the table.
Pour each colour of dye into its own container.
Fold the paper into eighths or sixteenths.
Dip one corner of the folded paper into a colour, then lift it out before it gets too wet.
Dip another corner into a different colour.
Keep going until all corners have colour.
Lay the paper flat and let it dry.
Carefully unfold and enjoy the patterns.

Easy ideas to try
Cut simple shapes into the paper before dyeing.
Use an eye dropper to add colour to the centre.
Try dripping dye onto flat, unfolded paper for a softer look.
Paper Towels are great for this
Wrap-up
This paper dyeing lesson is fast, fun, and always gives great results. Every artwork turns out different, which kids love. It’s a relaxed way to explore colour and creativity without overthinking it — perfect for busy classrooms and creative afternoons at home.
