Today we’re going to create bold, colourful leaf prints on black paper. Kids will enjoy hunting for different leaves outside, then painting and printing them with bright autumn colours. This is simple, fun, and full of discovery.

What you’ll need
Black paper
A collection of leaves (different shapes and sizes)
FAS Super Tempera paints – white, orange, red, yellow
Sponge brushes or small sponges
A flat surface for rolling or brushing paint (plastic sheet or card works well)
Steps
Get your leaves: Take the children outside and let them collect different leaves. This part is half the fun!
Prepare the background: Use black paper as the base. The dark colour makes the bright paints really pop.
Paint the leaves: Coat the back of a leaf with white FAS Super Tempera. Press it firmly onto the black paper to make a clear print.
Add autumn colours: Use a sponge to dab around the leaf prints with orange, red, and yellow. Light sponging works best to build up soft layers of colour.
Experiment and repeat: Try overlapping prints, using different leaf shapes, and mixing the sponged colours. Encourage the kids to make patterns or a full autumn scene.
Conclusion
Leaf printing on black paper is quick to set up, easy to do, and gives brilliant results. Children will love the mix of nature and art, and every picture will be different. It’s a perfect activity for classrooms or at home – simple, colourful, and full of creativity.
