Cotton Bud Painting: Two Easy Art Projects for Kids
Here are two simple and creative cotton bud painting activities for children. One is perfect for making colourful dot art and flowers, while the other turns a painted design into a simple print.
Project 1: Cotton Bud Dot Painting
What you will need:
Cotton buds
Paper
How to do it:
1. Choose your colours:
Pour a small amount of FAS Super Tempera onto a palette or plate.
2. Start dotting
Dip the end of a cotton bud into the paint and make dots on the paper. Try making flowers, patterns or simple pictures.
3. Try different colours:
Use different colours and layer your dots to build up your picture.
Tip: Bundle several cotton buds together with a rubber band and dip them into the paint. This makes several dots at once and is great for creating flower petals.
Dot art is simple and perfect for beginners. Kids will love watching their pictures grow one dot at a time.
Project 2: Cotton Bud Printing
What you will need:
Cotton buds
Two pieces of paper
A palette or plate
How to do it
1. Create your design:
Use cotton buds and FAS Super Tempera to paint dots, lines and simple patterns onto your paper.
2. Make your print
While the paint is still wet, place a second piece of paper over the design.
3. Press and reveal:
Gently press over the paper, then carefully peel it back to reveal your print.
4. Try again:
Keep both the original painting and the print. You can also add more paint to your first design and make another print.
Tip: Make a Print
Once you have finished your cotton bud design, place a clean piece of paper over the wet paint and gently press down. Peel it back to reveal your print — a simple way to create a second piece of artwork from the same design.
