Steps:

  1. Prepare the Space:  Put on aprons and cover the area around the window with newspapers or a sheet. Use adhesive tape to protect the window frame, ledges, and floor edges.

  2. Set Up the Window:  Paint on the inside of the window, as the tempera paint is water-soluble and can be easily cleaned. For a neat effect, consider painting dark borders or "frames" on the window first so each child has a space to work in.

  3. Choose a Theme:  You could have the children paint what they see outside, copy a toy placed on the other side of the window, or paint fun holiday-themed scenes. Let their creativity lead the way!

  4. Get Painting:  Let the kids paint directly onto the window using their brushes and paints. Watch them light up as their artwork comes to life on the glass.

  5. Cleaning Up:  Once the artwork has been enjoyed, wash the window with a sponge and warm soapy water. The paint comes off easily, but if it's been left on for a while, soak the paint first to make cleaning simpler.

Tips:

  • Use water-soluble tempera paint, not acrylics, which can be difficult to remove.

  • Keep paper towels or a damp rag handy for any spills on walls or floors.

  • If you want an even easier clean-up, you can tape the cellophane to the window and let the kids paint on that instead.

Painting on windows is a special treat for kids and adds a playful touch to any space. Whether it's a bright sunny day or a rainy afternoon, this activity brings joy and lets children explore a different kind of canvas.
